Founded in 2023 by Dustin Coles as a means to develop high quality innovative gear for eastern and midwestern hunters and anglers. 

While studying at West Virginia University, Dustin began hunting away from home and dealt with the challenges associated with unfamiliar terrain, and unsuitable equipment. With the desire to continue whitetail hunting while away he began experimenting with new equipment and techniques. With the concurrent rise of other outdoor companies he was introduced to the technical hunting equipment that seemed to offer the solution the problems he was facing. Whether that be tree saddles or western style frame packs. 

Shortly after graduating from West Virginia University he created his own tree saddle, and pieced together backpack components purchased from surplus stores and hunting forums to suit his needs. Quickly the realization set in that there was room to improve upon current offerings and North Country Gear Works was born.
